Traditional lighting use to be Tiffany lamps, brass or crystal chandeliers, wall sconces and table lamps with fancy lampshades, however in recent years, interior decorators have included more versatile lighting such as track lights, three-way lamps, and dimmer switches into the classification of “Traditional lighting”.
In order to determine the best type of lighting for each room of your home, determine that room’s purpose. For instance, if the room’s primarily purpose is for entertaining guests as in a formal dining room, then a crystal or brass chandelier is a fabulous idea. However, if you were entertaining guest in a family room,
then a better choice would be a combination of floor lamps, recessed lighting fixtures, and possibly lamps for the table.

When using several different lighting techniques in a single room, you want to make sure you keep the look simple and consistent. An example of this would be if you have a Tiffany lamp in your home office, then you may not want to use a halogen floor lamps in that same room along with a couple of novelty lamps, unless
however, this look appeals to you. A better choice would be to use lighting that either matched or complemented the Tiffany lamp such as traditional desk lamps or wall sconces.
For a consistent look throughout your home, use a single lighting style. Some individuals prefer the clean lines of modern lighting while others desires an antique or Victorian look. Whatever style your decor is, there are traditional lighting options that will complement your home.
